In a disaster, the Block Captain’s first responsibility is for the safety of their family and home. If there is time, the Block Captain’s role is to check on neighbors, especially those with special needs, and disseminate information from the City’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to residents. The Block Captain also gathers information about the state of nearby residents and provides a summary to the City’s EOC through their two-way radio. This information is communicated to first responders.
