In his report to the City Council on February 10, Charlie Harrington, Chair of the Parks, Open Spaces and Lanes (POSL) Committee, focused on Belvedere’s lanes. He noted that our lanes are not only sources of open space and recreation, but also provide an essential means of evacuation for residents – both those living up on the Islands and those in our low-lying neighborhoods. With safety in mind, in 2024, POSL focused on vegetation maintenance throughout the city to reduce fire risk, as well as making repairs to Cedar and McLean lanes. POSL goals for 2025 include maintenance and repairs for Holly, Corinthian, Transpac and Upper McLean lanes, as well as Hawthorn Lane/Centennial Park. The committee also is working to develop plans for a viewing platform at Artist’s View (a city-owned open space on Belvedere Ave. near Blanding) to be funded by a grant that Belvedere has already secured.
