Coyote

There are currently two coyotes living on Belvedere Island — an adult female and her 8-month-old offspring. The male partner was found dead last October. A toxicology report revealed antifreeze and illegal rodenticides in his system. Rodenticides can work their way up the food chain to coyotes, owls and hawks. If you use a pest control company, please confirm that they are adhering to 2025 state and Belvedere laws on rodent poisons.

Another coyote frequents Corinthian Island and Beach/Peninsula Road. Please remove any attractants (food left outside, bird feeders, piles of debris) and eliminate easy access to your yard by repairing holes in fences and closing gates.

Hazing coyotes makes them more fearful of humans. Effective hazing works. For more information, visit the Coyote Awareness page. For hazing/defensive props and yard deterrents, please email Mayor Jane Cooper.
