Also at the September 9 Councill meeting, City Manager Robert Zadnik reported that Belvedere has begun exploratory discussions with Tiburon Fire Protection District about the possibility of annexing into the district. Tiburon Fire has protected Belvedere since 1980, and the city has begun to explore whether we can formally join the district in a way that is more financially efficient and sustainable for both parties than the current contract for services.
This work is in its earliest stages and is being done with the help of Marin County Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCo). The city and fire district have formed a task force with three representatives on each side. Belvedere’s representatives are Mayor Peter Mark, Councilmember Sally Wilkinson, and City Manager Robert Zanik.
A feasibility study and financial analysis will begin soon to analyze possible annexation as well as other service options for the city. Given how important high quality fire and emergency medical services are, reporting and updates will be frequent, and as transparent and comprehensive as possible.
