About

The Belvedere Council comprises five members elected by their fellow residents to serve for four years. Elections are held every two years, with three council members elected in one cycle and two in the alternate cycle.

Although there is no legal limit on the number of terms a council member can serve, the custom in Belvedere is for elected officials to serve not more than two terms (8 years).

The City operates under a City Council-City Manager form of government. The City Council is responsible for setting city policy, including adopting ordinances and the annual budget, and the City Manager is responsible for implementing those instructions. It also appoints the City Manager and the City Attorney, as well as members of City commissions, boards, and advisory committees.

The mayor and vice mayor roles are mainly ceremonial and rotated among the council members. Each December, the five council members select a mayor and vice mayor from their ranks to serve for one year.

Meetings

Regular City Council Meetings are held on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at Belvedere City Hall, 450 San Rafael Avenue, Belvedere, CA 94920, and on Zoom.

City Council Meetings are open to the public.
