Building Electrification
In 2022, the Marin Civil Grand Jury urged local jurisdictions to adopt "reach codes" prohibiting the use of natural gas (propane) in newly constructed buildings and enhancing energy efficiency in homes undergoing renovation. Reach codes refer to local building code amendments that require greater energy efficiency than State codes.
The County of Marin has published model reach codes for municipalities to use as a template to build their codes.
The City is actively researching the proposed reach codes and how they could be applied in Belvedere. We expect to hold a series of public hearings during 2025 to get community input on the costs and benefits of building electrification.
